The Healthcare Compliance Certification Program (HCCP) is a multi-day educational program for compliance professionals and lawyers in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries that takes place at Seton Hall Law School in Newark, N.J., and occasionally at off site locations. The Program addresses the issues faced by the pharmaceutical and medical device industries in complying with such standards as the OIG’s Compliance Program Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, the PhRMA Code, and the AdvaMed Code of Ethics. The program immerses attendees in the statutes, regulations, and other guidances that comprise the body of law known as “fraud and abuse law,” as well as other healthcare related laws and regulations which will help them understand the legal underpinnings of the compliance programs they develop and enforce

Managing Financial Conflicts of Interest in Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Research (Location: Auditorium)

Faculty: Kathleen Boozang, Carl Coleman & Kate Greenwood

This program will examine the types of financial conflicts of interest that arise in research involving pharmaceuticals and medical devices, strategies for managing these conflicts, and applicable federal and state laws and policies. Topics will include:

  1. Defining conflicts of interest
  2. Evaluating the potential impact of conflicts of interest on research participants and the integrity of research results
  3. FDA and NIH requirements related to conflicts of interest
  4. State laws related to conflicts of interest
  5. The role of disclosure as a remedy to conflicts of interest
  6. Best practices in conflicts of interest management

Managing Medical Bills on the Brink of Bankruptcy

Featuring: Visiting Scholar MELISSA B. JACOBY, George R. Ward Professor of Law, UNC at Chapel Hill

Visiting Professor Melissa B.Jacoby, George R. Ward Professor of Law University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will review new research on how financially distressed patients deal with out-of-pocket medical bills and the implications for their health care providers.  The lecture will feature findings from two current empirical studies that shed light on the impact of medical bills on people who file for bankruptcy, and will consider how this work might inform health care finance, consumer credit regulation, and bankruptcy law.

New Jersey Commissioner of Health to speak on The Changing Landscape of Health Care Policy in New Jersey

Dr. Poonam AlaighThe Center will host a public lecture by NJ Commissioner of Health & Senior Services, Dr. Poonam Alaigh. Prior to serving in the Christie Administration, Dr. Alaigh was the Executive Director at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, responsible for the major clinical areas that ensure the delivery of quality healthcare for its members. Dr. Alaigh has a multifaceted background in health care administration and delivery, including clinical practice hospital practice, hospital administration, managed care, pharmaceutical medicine, and health care policy. This lecture will be open to students, alumni, and the community, with a reception immediately following.
